Biography

Dr. Julius S. Barr, 86, died on Oct. 11, 2002. In 1946 Dr. Barr was the only dentist in Romulus, MI setting up practice in a building that remained his office for 38 years, until his retirement in 1984.
During World War II, Dr. Bar was a lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. He was stationed on LST 464, the first and only landing ship tank outfitted as a first aid ship. For his care of wounded soldiers, sailors and marines under hazardous conditions during the initial invasion of the Philippines, Dr. Barr received a commendation.
He played violin and was a member of the Jewish Center Orchestra, the Southfield Symphony, the Birmingham Bloomfield Symphony, the Dearborn Symphony and, while on vacation in California, the Palm Springs Symphony. Despite his battle with Alzheimer's, he continued to play the violin.
